Borate – BTX Plugs

Railroad bridge timbers are subjected to harsh elements and serious wear and tear. And unfortunately, replacing bridge timbers is a complex and costly process. The answer is increasing the durability of your bridge timbers with BTX plug treatment.

Increase the Durability of Your Railroad Bridge Timbers With BTX Plugs

Wheeler is proud to offer the Nisus BTX Tie Extender system. Through BTX, holes are drilled directly into the bridge timber, filled with Cella-treat borate and then plugged with BTX plugs.

As a result, bridge timbers are treated from the inside out. According to Nisus, borate heartwood treatment such as BTX increases tie life by 20 years.

Add Even More Protection With QNAP Treatment

After the BTX plugs are in place, bridge timbers can then be pressure treated. The timbers are first treated with borate, which diffuses entirely through the timber. They’re then top-coated with QNAP, a safe and effective oil-borne preservative with lasting efficiency.

These two effective treatments provide a 100% treatment through the timber, resulting in timbers with increased durability and endurance. This longevity translates to significant cost savings, making QNAP-treated timbers a worthwhile investment.
